Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary celebrated in Tirupati

Tirupati: Rich tributes were paid to former prime minister late Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her 103rd birth anniversary here on Tuesday. AICC member and state secretary K Pramila, local leaders M Gopal Reddy, Narasimhulu, Naveenkumar Reddy

and several activists paid floral tributes to the portrait of Indira Gandhi at Municipal Office Circle here. To mark the occasion, the party activists also distributed 103 blankets to the poor.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Pramila described Indira as a courageous leader who took several bold steps like nationalisation of banks paving way to extend credit facility to the poor, abolition of Privy Purse and also for eradication of poverty.

Her Garibi Hatao programme became popular in giving a big push to the efforts for alleviation of poverty in the country, she averred. Madabhushi Ananthasayanam Institute of Public Affairs (MAIPA) also celebrated the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.

MAIPA founder president and former Speaker A Eswar Reddi and others paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi. He said that she had sacrificed her life to protect national unity and integrity.
