Chirala: VRS & YRN College of Engineering and Technology in Chirala is focussing on training the students as per the needs of the industry and instilling the discipline and social responsibility in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Vutukuri Ramaiah Sreshti and Yarlagadda Ranganayakulu Naidu College of Engineering and Technology is being run by the Yalamanchili industrial group for a short time.

The new management has installed a life-size monolithic statue of Mahatma Gandhi and a museum with the details of incidents, photos, original and replicas of tools and things, used by the father of the nation, celebrating his 150th birth anniversary. Now, it has become a destination for the schools to teach about the simplicity and honesty that was practised by Mahatma Gandhi.

The college is also equipped with an in-house entrepreneurship training facility for the students. Apart from the regular, 'How to become an entrepreneur?' type training explaining the steps to get permissions from the government, the college is training the diploma and engineering students to put their knowledge into experience in manufacturing.

For example, the electronics and electrical students are manufacturing LED bulbs while the electrical and mechanical students are making fans with the principles they studied in the classroom. The college executive Gorantla Sarath said that the management wants to encourage students to become entrepreneurs to offer jobs, not just employees to do jobs.

He said that they are encouraging interested students to start small industries at first by providing material and also with a buy-back agreement. He said that the Yalamanchili group is recruiting the remaining students into its companies based on the requirements.
