Intellectuals oppose 'unscientific' division of Srikakulam district

Book against division of Srikakulam released by intellectuals on Sunday

Srikakulam: The reorganisation of Srikakulam district based on Lok Sabha segment wise was strongly opposed by the intellectuals. They released a book against 'unscientific' division of the district here on Sunday.

The book written by senior journalist N Dharma Rao explained that Srikakulam was noted for backwardness and if it was split by considering Lok Sabha segment, the district loses its all available resources. At present, 10 Assembly segments existing in Srikakulam district, of them Itchapuram, Palasa, Tekkali, Narasannapeta, Srikakulam, Pathapatnam and Amudalavalasa, the seven Assembly segments are covered under Srikakulam Lok Sabha segment.

Another two Assembly segments, Etcherla and Rajam are part of Vizianagaram Lok Sabha segment. Another Assembly segment, Palakonda is part of the Araku Lok Sabha segment. Industries and educational institutions are in Etcherla and Rajam segments and water projects are in Palakonda segment.

If the district was split, Srikakulam will lose its key resources, explained former vice chancellor of BR Ambedkar University, H Lajipathi Rai. Former joint collectors P Rajani Kantha Rao, R Appa Rao, senior journalist G Lokanadham, CPI district secretary S Narasimhulu, BJP national committee member D Ravindra Babu and YSRCP leaders P Raja Rao, M Mahalaxmi, Indian Red Cross Society district chairman P Jaganmohan Rao explained various reasons against split of the district.
