Srikakulam: Intermediate education will be totally revamped in the state as the government has decided to change existing traditional system.

From the current academic year, the reforms will be applicable for first year admissions. Only four sections are allowed for three categories of courses, arts, commerce and sciences in government and private junior colleges. In each section, only 40 students are allowed. Previously it was more than 80, now, the section wise strength is limited to 40 students.

For additional sections, the college managements have to apply and must show infrastructure facilities during inspection of Intermediate Board officials. These additional sections shall also be limited to five only and maximum sections for three categories of courses are nine and total students' number should be limited to 360 in each college. With an aim to prevent crowding in classrooms, the state government took this decision.

Inspection proceedings of the intermediate board officials should be video graphed and details of colleges like classrooms, furniture, laboratory, playground details shall also be geo tagged. Admissions for first year intermediate shall also be conducted through online mode to achieve transparency in students' numbers and their details.

Rationalisation process will also be implemented for government junior colleges on the lines of schools from the current academic year. If students' number in section is less than 20, the section will be closed and the lecturer will be shifted to other college. Details regarding reforms already explained to district vocational education (DVEO) officers and regional intermediate officers (RIO) and principals of junior colleges across the state through video-conference recently. "We have received orders from our commissioner and secretary regarding proposed reforms in intermediate education from the current academic year," stated Srikakulam DVEO Kota Prakash Rao and RIO S Rukmangadha Rao with The Hans India.
