Inter-media sports meet commences
Visakhapatnam: Journalists play an important role in the development of various fields and society, said GVMC Commissioner P Raja Babu. Inaugurating the 'Inter Media Sports Meet' jointly organised by the CMR and Vizag Journalists' Forum at Visakhapatnam Port Authority grounds here on Tuesday, the Commissioner stated that although he has worked in several districts earlier, he never saw such a large participation of journalists in sports event like here.
The Municipal Commissioner stressed on the need to organise such activities for journalists who were constantly on their toes in serving society. He opined that sports events such as these would set an example for journalists working across the country. Apart from improving physical health, sports also help build mental strength, Raja Babu mentioned.
Boxing coach from Sports Authority of India Manasa said she was planning to give free training to the children of journalists. President of the VJF Gantla Srinubabu said the meet would continue for 10 days.
As a part of the sports meet, a tug of war was organised on the inaugural day. Later, various competitions were held for men and women, including 100 and 200 metres race, high jump and long jump. VJF general secretary D Ravi Kumar, vice president R Nagaraju Patnaik, other members I Eswara Rao, D Giribabu, MSR Prasad and athletes were present from various media houses.
