Inter-state gang busted, 10 cars, 3 bikes seized
Vijayawada: Bhavanipuram police arrested five inter-state motor vehicle lifters and recovered 10 cars, three motor vehicles worth Rs 19.2 lakh from their possession.
The five offenders arrested by the Bhavanipuram police were identified as Tata Prasad from Gantasala, Namala Nagaraju from Vijayawada, Banavath Suresh from Jaggaiahpeta, D Govardhan from Kanchikacherla from Krishna district and Periya Swamy Marimuthu from Dindigal, Tamil Nadu.
The offenders were produced before the media on Saturday by the Vijayawada Crime DCP II Ch Vijayarao. Speaking on the occasion, Vijayarao said that as part of Spandana programme they have received many complaints pertaining to vehicle lifting. In this regard, the police stepped up vigil and laid a trap to nab the culprits under the supervision of DCP Vijayarao, ADCP Chandrashekar and ACP Sudhakar.
On August 23, the team initiated a search under the leadership of Bhavanipuram police station inspector D Mohan Reddy and took the suspects into custody. During interrogation, the five accused confessed to the crime of lifting cars and bikes in late night at various places which were parked on the roads.
The police have recovered three Tavera cars, one Swift desire, five Bolero, one Alto and three motorcycles worth Rs 19.2 lakh. Cases were registered on the accused under relevant sections in the IPC.
Bhavanipuram Inspector D Mohan Reddy, SI V Krishna Babu and the police station staff were appreciated for cracking the case.
