Jagan Government takes initiative to transport walking migrants at free of cost

Amaravati: As a big relief to the migrant labour going by walk in the state belonging to other states, the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed the officials to arrange transportation facilities to reach their respective destinations.

CM office explained that the government has initiated proper steps to safely transport migrant workers from our state to other parts of the country, in a statement on Sunday.

Jagan directed to organize buses on the highway to pick them up and take to the nearest relief centers.

Officials revealed that, in the last three days, 4661 migrant labour going by walk were stopped at various check posts and sent to 62 relief centers across the State.

Out of them 485 people were walking to various districts in our State. The remaining 4176 belong to other States. There are 966 from Odisha, 815 from Bihar, 1012 UP, 576 Jharkhand, 331 from Chhattisgarh and other States.

Arrangements are being made to transport the migrant labour belonging to Odisha by buses. Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney discussed with her counterpart in Odisha and it was agreed to receive the migrant labour at Ganjam with prior intimation.

Saturday night, AP government transported 902 migrant labour to Odisha from Prakasham, Krishna and Srikakulam districts. On Sunday, government was sending 450 persons from Guntur and all the Joint Collectors were making arrangements to send the people of Odisha to Ganjam in APSRTC buses.

The Chief Secretary informed that, already arranged 31 Shramik trains from AP and transported 39,000 people to different destinations. Out of them, 9 trains to Bihar, 5 to Odisha, 4 to UP, 4 to Jharkhand, 4 to Rajasthan, 3 to Maharastra one each to Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Government will be running 5 trains for 7500 people on Sunday, she added.

We have planned another 22 trains during this week for 33,000 people and NoCs from the receiving States is being pursued. We will tie up the migrant labour to these Shramik trains giving top most priority, she explained.

All the police check posts are provided with staff from revenue department to counsel the migrant labour to come to relief centers with a promise to send them by shramik trains.

79 Food counters are organized along the NH nearer to the checkposts to give them food and water. Similarly Collectors were asked to put banners on highways in Oriya and Hindi.
