Jagan kept his promise in 5 months: Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao
Visakhapatnam: Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said the government despite financial crisis has come to the rescue of AgriGold victims by extending financial aid to them.
Speaking at a programme organised here on Thursday to hand over cheques to those with deposits below Rs 10,000, the Minister said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy kept his promise made to the AgriGold depositors during his Padayatra.
"He fulfilled the promise within five months of assuming office as Chief Minister by allocating Rs 1,150 crore in the budget for the purpose. Over 52,000 families who lost their hard-earned money in the district got relief in the first phase. A total of Rs 40 crore amount was disbursed to the depositors in the district.
Those who deposited above Rs 10,000 and below Rs 20,000 would be extended the aid in the next phase," he said. Linking progress to literacy, the Minister said the government was keen on making the state number one in literacy drive in the next five years.
The Minister claimed the government created a record of sorts by providing jobs to the lakhs of youth on a big scale. Similarly, the YSRCP government was taking necessary steps for the imposition of prohibition in phases, he informed.
Srinivasa Rao also listed other welfare schemes initiated by the government for various sections of people. Government whip B Mutyala Naidu said that Jagan Mohan Reddy government has already fulfilled 80 per cent of poll promises.
