Justice Arup Kumar Goswami appointed as new Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh

Justice Arup Kumar Goswami has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The Supreme Court collegium has decided to transfer him, who is currently the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court, to Andhra Pradesh and Justice Maheshwari, who is currently the Andhra Pradesh High Court CJ, to Sikkim.

Justice Goswami was born on March 11, 1961 in Jorhat, Assam. He graduated in law from Guwahati Government Law College in 1985. Registered as a lawyer on 16 August 1985, he argued different cases related to civil, criminal, constitutional, employment services. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Guwahati High Court in 2011 and Permanent Judge in 2012.

On 15 October 2019, he was promoted to the post of Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court. Prior to that, he was promoted to Senior Advocate from the Guwahati High Court on December 21, 2004. Later from 2011 to 2013 he served as the Executive Chairman of the Nagaland State Legal Service. He has twice served as the interim Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court since 2018.
