Rajamahendravaram: The State government was showing step-motherly attitude in providing basic facilities in the tribal habitations in the Agency area of East Godavari district and Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) which came into existence some years ago for overall development of tribal habitations failed in this regard.

Kachhulurumanda, a tribal habitation in Devipatnam mandal where the boat capsize took place a week ago facing many problems due to lack of basic amenities including roads, communication, lighting and drinking water etc. The residents of the village saved lives of 24 tourists relating to the recent boat capsize.

Though the State government was releasing crores of rupees to the ITDA for the welfare of tribals and development of the Agency Area, there was no progress asper the expectations.

About 160 tribal families in the habitation are facing problems but the officials are not going to that side though the government is giving advertisements relating to tribal welfare. ITDA is not providing fishing boats to the tribals as many are eking out a living through fishing.

ITDA was not laying roads though there is no funds crunch for the development of agency area. The people here facing untold hardships in commuting from one place to another, especially during the rainy season. Going to hospitals for medical treatment is also becoming difficult.

There is a tremendous scope for laying of cement concrete road to Kacchuluru mandal from Mantur and Peddanutulu but, unfortunately, the ITDA not taking initiative in this regard.
