Kadapa Collector Ch Harikiran said Migrant Transit Quarantine Centre established for migrants

Kadapa: As part of curbing the outbreak of coronavirus, the district administration has established a 320-bed Migrant Transit Quarantine Centre (MTQC) at Yogi Vemana University (YVU), about 8 km away from Kadapa city.

According to sources, the MTQC was established to provide medical facilities to migrant labourers.

It may be recalled that scores of labourers from Kadapa district have migrated to cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai as house construction workers and were also engaged in other professions for livelihood. Following enforcement of lockdown, they were stranded for the last 45 days in those cities.

After the Central government decided to let the migrants to go to their native places, the district administration has received information from the respective States over shifting of the labourers to their native places.

In this regard, as a precautionary measure, the district administration established MTQC for migrant labourers.

District Collector Ch Harikiran said that thousands of people from Kadapa district migrated to various places for livelihood. These people are being shifted to Kadapa district by those governments in a phased manner. With the aim of avoiding spread of coronavirus, the district administration set up the MTQC. He said the migrants would be placed in MTQC for 14 days quarantine and during this period they would undergo swab tests and fever tests. If the result proved negative, they would be discharged and sent to their native places on the condition that they should stay either in home isolation or common quarantine centres in their respective constituencies.

He said in case any person tested positive, he will be shifted to COVID-19 hospital at Fathima Medical college.
