Kakinada: 55-year-old widow raped, murdered at G Vemavaram
Kakinada: Even before the nationwide public outrage over the gang-rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad could subside, a similar horrific crime has come to light from Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district.
According to police, a 55-year-old widow was allegedly raped and murdered at G Vemavaram village of I Polavaram mandal in East Godavari district late on Monday night. Initially there were reports that it was a gang-rape and murder case. But, later, during their investigation, the police came to the conclusion that there was only one accused in the case.
According to Mummidivaram Circle Inspector B Rajasekhar, the woman who lost her husband was residing at G Vemavaram village. Unfortunately, she also lost her son 10 months back. Her daughter-in-law and grandchildren are residing at Bhimanapalli village in Upplaguptam mandal.
On Monday, Subrahmanya Shashti festival was celebrated in the village and many people attended the fest. The accused noticed that the woman was alone and entered the house. He raped the woman and killed her. Subsequently, to prevent foul smell emanating from the house, he sprayed chilli powder in the room. Following a complaint from local people, the police, clues team and dog squad rushed to the spot.
East Godavari SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi visited the scene of offence and assured of stern punishment to the accused. The police reportedly took the accused into custody at the village on Tuesday evening.
