Kakinada: Tense situation prevailed at Divi's Pharamaceutical company at Sampadipeta village of Tondangi mandal here on Thursday when at about 600 farmers barged into the company and burnt generator, container and demolished compound wall.
After the incident, 200 police were deployed to the spot and some agitating farmers were arrested. For nearly one year, the farmers and other people have been agitating against the construction of Divi's Pharmaceutical plant here.
Meanwhile, a local leader D V S Babji and others questioned Divi's management how they were proceeding with construction while the case was pending in High Court. The police also told the agitators that the issue was under the revenue department. The farmers demanded police to release arrested persons immediately.
The agitators alleged that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy opposed the construction of Divi's company while in opposition and assured that if YSRCP comes into power, the proposals would be set aside.
They allege that now Jagan Mohan Reddy has given green signal to Divi's Pharmaceutical unit colluding with them and said they would continue the agitation until the government stops the construction of the company.
