Kakinada: District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy on Monday said that necessary arrangements were made for conducting elections to the panchayats, municipalities, ZPTCs and MPTCs in the district.

Speaking to the media at Election Media Centre, he said that they were conducting elections to seven municipalities and three Grama Panchayats except Kakinada and Rajamahendravarm corporations in the district.

He said that he told the officials concerned that they should strictly abide the poll code and ensure that the elections were held freely and fairly.

Money and liquor should not influence the outcome of the elections, he added.

As per the schedule, March 11 is last date for filing nominations for ZPTC and MPTC elections.

Applications will be scrutinized on March 12, while March 13 has been fixed for filing appeals. After scrutiny on March 14, withdrawal of nominations can be allowed on March 16. After the polls on March 23, counting will be held on March 27 and results will be declared on the same day.

They are conducting elections in 1072 Grama Panchayats, 61 ZPTCs and 1086 MPTCs. Joint Collector-2 G Raja Kumari and others were present on the occasion.
