Construction workers stage dharna

Kakinada: AP Building and Other Construction Workers Union (CITU affiliate) district secretary C Rajkumar demanded that the government take steps so that sand is available 24 hours online and pay Rs 10,000 compensation to the construction workers who lost their jobs.

The union leaders and activists raised slogans and staged dharna against the government in front of the Collectrate here on Monday.

Rajkumar said that it was shameful on the part of the government that sand is not available in the sand reach points also. He said that the sand system in the state is causing great trouble for the common man.

CITU leader Babyrani criticized that the Central government was changing the labour laws to favour the owners and investors.

CITU district vice-president D Seshubabji said that the workers who had registered their names on the Building Welfare Board were not given the identity cards.

As a result, the workers could not utilize the government schemes. He demanded that the government issue the Identity cards immediately.

Union leaders P Veerababu, Sathiraju and others were present.
