Kakinada reels under severe power cuts
Kakinada: The city has been experiencing undeclared power cuts for the past few days. Residents say that there were no power cuts during the tenure of former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and now, how the power is now being turned off. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy assured the people that there will be no power cuts in the State.
The businessmen have expressed displeasure over the frequent power cuts in the city as it hit their businesses. In Rural areas, the power goes off for two to three hours. The residents allege the Discoms were not even sending prior information over the power cuts to make alternative arrangements.
Speaking to The Hans India, Electricity Department Divisional Engineer N Uday Bhaskar said there was no shortage of power and the power cuts were being implemented as part of road expansion under the 'Smart City' project.
He said power cuts would be imposed for three to four hours on every Friday as part of the 'Smart City' works. He said that the city needs 100 million units of power every month.
