Tirumala: Ahead of the annual Brahmotsavams, the traditional cleansing fete Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was held at the Tirumala temple on Tuesday. TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal, Special Officer A V Dharma Reddy and others took part in this religious event.

Later, speaking to media outside the temple, the TTD EO pointed out that usually the Koil ALwar Tirumanjanam is observed four times in a year before annual Brahmotsavams, Anivara Asthanam, Telugu Ugadi and Vaikuntha Ekadasi.

As the nine-day annual fete is going to be organised between September 30 to October 8, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed on Tuesday from 6 am to 10 am. The significance behind this fete is to waive off the sins committed either knowingly or unknowingly by employees, religious staff, devotees etc. and purify the entire temple premises with a herbal amalgamation called 'Parimalam.'

"The Parimalam was smeared on the walls, roofs, pillars, in the main sanctum and also in other sub-shrines located at Tirumala temple by the employees. While doing this, the main deity will be covered with a veil and after the completion of cleansing of the temple and even the puja utensils, the veil was removed and prayers were offered to the presiding deity and later the devotees were allowed for darshan," the EO said.

Darshan which was suspended for conducting the ritual resumed after 12 noon.

Temple Dy EO Harindranath, Peishkar Sri Lokanatham and others were also present. EO inspects Pushkarini: TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal later inspected the beautification works at Swami Pushkarini along with Tirumala Special Officer A V Dharma Reddy.
