Kurnool: 3 security guards sacked as Covid-19 patient attempts to flee
Kurnool: Following the missing of Covid-19 patient from the Kurnool Government General hospital, the hospital authorities have suspended three security guards. Condemning the suspension, the guards staged protest in the hospital premises on Friday. A security guard, S Rajasekhar speaking on the occasion has asked how the guards are responsible for the patient missing. How would we identify whether she or he is covid-19 patient.
This is the duty of doctors and nurses and they have to take care of them, not we, stated Rajasekhar.
He further said that the guards are rendering services though salaries were not paid for four months. They are paid only Rs.8,200 a month and demanded the authorities to immediately pay the pending salaries..
The AITUC district secretary, S Muneppa said that it is not the duty of guards to identify the covid and non- covid patients; it is the duty of doctors and nurses. To till date in a span of three months as many as 27 security guards were sacked by the managements. Whenever a problem arises the security guards are made responsible, he regretted.
He demanded the hospital authorities to immediately reinstate the sacked security guards and pay the pending salaries. He also said that the sanitary workers are also facing similar problems. They are also taking up sanitation works without salaries.
Kurnool MP Dr S Sanjeev Kumar who happened to attend the inaugural ceremony of de-addiction centre set up in hospital premises was obstructed at the entry point. On an earlier occasion the MP has assured that he will strive to clear off the pending salaries of security guards and sanitary workers. But the problem was not solved till date.
