Kurnool: Congress leaders describe PV Narasimha Rao as 'father of economic reforms'
Kurnool: District Congress Committee city president John Wilson said that the former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao has saved the nation from the imminent financial crisis by introducing financial and economic reforms in various sectors across the nation.
Paying rich floral tributes to the portrait of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao on the occasion of his 16th death anniversary at party office here on Wednesday, Wilson while recalling the services of Narasimha Rao, said while discharging the responsibilities as Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh, he has introduced land reforms. Under the land reforms act, the government has taken back thousands of acres of lands from the landlords and distributed it to landless poor farmers, he said. Though landlords have expressed anguish over the move, but he did not care them, said Wilson.
Party's official spokesperson Ananta Karunakar Babu said though P V Narasimha Rao hailed from a landlord family background, he has distributed his 1,200 acres of land to the landless poor. The leader who greatly moved by the slaughtering of wild and forest animals, has brought Wildlife Conservation Act, said Karunakar Babu. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on learning about the PV's working style has thought to utilise his services at national level. She immediately appointed him as general secretary of All India Congress Committee. After the Emergency period, the Congress has lost seats at almost all places but with the efforts of PV the party has won 41 out of 42 MP seats in the state, he pointed out.
DCC vice-president K Pedda Reddy said that after six months of assuming the chair of Prime Minister, PV Narasimha Rao has contested the MP seat from Nandyal constituency and won with a huge majority. He has saved the nation from the economic crisis. He was also known as the "father of economic reforms,' stated Pedda Reddy.
