Kurnool: Cyber crook cheats woman of 1.80 lakhs
Kurnool: A resident of Kurnool town was cheated to the tune of Rs.1.80 lakh by a face book friend. The victim lodged a complaint with the cops of Two Town police station on Sunday. According to the Circle Inspector, C Maheshwar Reddy, one Annapurna resident of Venkataramana Colony in the town has received a friendship request from one Roselyn Catherine through face book.
After accepting the request both got acquainted and were exchanging details about each other and this made Annapurna to trust Roselyn Catherine. Both have exchanged their mobile numbers. After some days, Catherine said that she has sent some valuable material to Annapurna and requested her to receive it.
Later Annapurna received a call from another mobile number informing her that they were calling from customs department. She was informed that a parcel was lying with them and she has to pay customs duty tax of Rs.13, 750 for its release. They also gave an account number asking Annapurna to deposit the amount. She also received a call in the evening on the same day to deposit another amount of Rs.46, 750, said Maheshwar Reddy.
Annapurna though suspecting that she was being cheated, has also deposited another Rs.1.15 lakhs on 20th of May. After sending the amount, neither she received the parcel nor the face book friend came in contact. Finally, Annapurna realised that she was cheated. She approached the police and lodged a complaint. The Circle Inspector appealed the residents to be aware of face book friends and never trust them.
