Kurnool: Doctors deny treatment to pregnant woman from quarantine centre
Kurnool: A pregnant woman, who developed labour pains, was denied admission by the doctors at Halaharvi primary health care centre and at Alur government hospital. The reasons behind denying admission are that the woman was referred from a quarantine centre at Halaharvi and was suspected to be a corona-affected patient. This heinous incident was taken place at Halaharvi in Alur constituency on Monday.
According to the information, the pregnant woman Gouramma was a resident of Billehal village under Halaharvi police station limits. Before lockdown, she along with some other villagers has migrated to Goa in search of livelihood. With the lockdown restrictions in force, the migrants were not allowed to return to their natives. However, the government on learning about the pathetic situation of the migrant labourers in other states, has accorded permission that they can reach their natives.
With the government giving its nod, several migrants stranded at various places
across the nation were returned to their native places. But before allowing them to their houses, they were shifted to quarantine centres. Gouramma, the pregnant woman, is also one among those that were stationed at the KGBV quarantine centre in Halaharvi.
Being pregnant she developed labour pains at the quarantine centre. The quarantine centre authorities informed her family members and they took her to the primary health care centre at Halaharvi. But she was denied medical checkup by the PHC staff. Instead of giving treatment, they referred her to Alur government hospital.
On the directions, one of her family members took her to the Alur government hospital on a motor bike travelling a stretch of 15 kilometres under the scorching heat.
In Alur hospital also, she was denied admission and referred to Adoni Area Hospital. She was taken to Adoni in 108 ambulance from Alur, where she was admitted and was under doctor's care, stated a source.
The family members came down heavily on the doctors for denying admission and medical checkup. They demanded strong disciplinary action on the doctors for denying admission.
