Kurnool: Onion prices increased, government takes measures to slash the rates
The price of onion across the country is skyrocketing day by day. The situation is almost the same in the Telugu states. The government says it is taking measures to curb onion prices, however, the prices are not under the control.
The price of onions in the Kurnool open market is on sale at Rs 60 to Rs 70 per kg. This is attributed to the complete decline in the supply of onions from Maharashtra. Usually, vegetable consumption is increased due to the effect of the auspicious month of Kartika
This time the rise in onion prices has become more burdensome for consumers. About 95 per cent of the onion crop in AP comes from Kurnool district. About 88,000 acres are cultivated in this district. The remaining five per cent are planted elsewhere. It is also heavily cultivated in Nashik, Maharashtra. It is noteworthy that these two types of onions are the most sought after markets in the Telugu states.
