Several villages in Kurnool district face drinking water scarcity

Kurnool: Several villages in the district have been facing acute drinking water scarcity. The villagers especially on the western part of the district have to wait for days to get a pot of water.

Though the problem is very common during every summer season, the officials concerned are least bothered to address the problem.

Several incidents in the past were seen where the residents indulged clashes while getting water. About a month ago, the residents of Venkatanayuni Palle in Dhone constituency assembled at one place in large numbers to get a pot of water.

The villagers are still facing the same problem. Till date the problem was not fixed, stated a source.

Several villages in the constituency and other villages in Pathikonda, Alur, Adoni, Nandyal, Kodumur and Yemmignur were also facing similar problems.

The residents of Kandanathi village in Yemmignur staged protest in front of Sachivalayam demanding supply of drinking water.

A villager, Chand Basha has said that the officials are least bothered to address the issue. For the past fortnight water was not supplied in the village, he said.

Due to prevailing of corona virus scare, we are not allowed to go out to fetch water from the agriculture bore wells, stated another villager, Mangamma. The officials are not supplying water for the past fortnight, she complained.

Similar situations are prevailing in Nandyal. The residents of NGO Colony alleged that they are not getting municipal water. At some areas water is being supplied through tankers which is not catering to the needs of several residents, sources say.
