Kurnool: Shakambari Utsavam to be held at Srisailam temple tomorrow
Kurnool: On the auspicious occasion of Aashada Pournami, the authorities of Sri Bramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple of Srisailam would organise Shakambari Utsavam to Goddess Sri Bramarambika Devi on July 5.
During this Utsavam, Amma varu would be decorated with various varieties of fruits, vegetables and leafy vegetables, said the temple Executive Officer KS Rama Rao while addressing media persons at his office in Srisailam on Friday.
Rama Rao said special pujas would be performed to Amma varu on Sunday. Shaka Alankarana would be done to Raja Rajeswari Devi, Saptha Matruka, Grama Devatha Ankalamma besides Amma varu. The Aashada Pournami would be observed as Guru Pournami, he said.
In ancient days a demon Durgamudu of Hiranyakshu clan has destroyed Vedas with his powers which had an impact on yagnas. With the stopping of yagams severe drought prevailed. At that time the Maharishis had performed Tapassu seeking blessing from Adi Parasakthi. Later, she killed the demon Durgamudu and restored Vedas.
After that she drove out the drought with several varieties of leafy vegetables and fruits. Sakhambari Devi represents Adi Parasakthi. On the day of Aashada pournami, Amma varu would be decorated with leafy vegetables and fruits, said KS Rama Rao. Later, the Executive Officer accompanied with the officials has visited horticulture flower gardens located near the temple.
He directed the officials to plant extensive varieties of flower plants at all gardens this rainy season. He said the parks need to be developed in such a way that the devotees could take some relief under the trees after having darshan.
He also said to officials to plant more lemon tree saplings as the fruits are extensively used for decorating Amma varu. The temple is cultivating floriculture in an extent of 20 acres, said KS Rama Rao.
