Kurnool: Vasireddy Padma called upon the Need for financial empowerment of women stressed

Kurnool: Andhra Pradesh State Mahila Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma called upon the women to become financially empowered with the schemes introduced by the state government. She also said that safety of woman was also the top priority, for which the state government was taking stringent measures like Disha Act.

Padma participated as the chief guest in a programme organised as part of International Women's Day celebrations at Sunaina Auditorium here on Thursday.

Addressing on the occasion, the women's commission chief said the government aimed at rendering justice to every woman through Disha Act. "The government, just in 9 months of coming to office, has won the hearts of people by immediately solving the grievances received. The official machinery, across the state is sincerely working for women's safety. Even crime rate has also declined a lot with reduction in sales of liquor," said Padma.

District collector G Veera Pandiyan while noting that literacy rate among women was poor, said development could be revved up if women become educated.

"The women are also suffering from anaemia resulting in higher child mortality rate. Officials need to address the problem. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has introduced several welfare schemes to benefit the people of all sections. My batchmates in various states are showing keen interest to known the implementation and results of Jagananna Amma Vodi scheme," he said.

Kurnool MLA M A Hafeez Khan said women were advancing in all sectors proving that they could achieve anything with determination. They were competing equally with men at all fields and were proving their strength and stamina, he said while adding that under the Disha Act, the culprits would be punished in a span of 21 days.
