Kurnool: Former Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya came down heavily on the ruling YSR Congress Party for betraying the people of the Backward Classes (BC) in the State.

She flayed Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for bringing down the reservation for BCs from 34 per cent to 24 per cent. Akhila Priya along with TDP district president Somishetty Venkateswarlu addressed the media here on Saturday.

Akhila Priya pointed out that during his Padayatra in the State, Jagan had assured justice to all sections of people. But the Chief Minister now went back on his promise and deprived the BCs of reservation.

She said that with the cut in reservations around 14,000 activists from the community have lost the opportunity to contest the local body elections. Akhila Priya criticised the Chief Minister stating that to secure funds of Rs 5,000 crore, the Chief Minister announced the local body polls in haste. He even postponed the tenth class exams, Akhila Priya pointed out.

The TDP leader challenged Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to order closure of all liquor shops in the State until the completion of the local body polls. Akhila Priya appealed to the district administration and police officials in the district to ensure free and fair polls.
