Left stages protest over bank merger in Rajamahendravaram

Activists and leaders of CPI and CPM staging dharna at Andhra Bank main branch in Rajamahendravaram on Tuesday, protesting against the merger of the bank in Union Bank

Rajamahendravaram: Left parties staged a dharna in front of the Andhra Bank at Fortgate here on Tuesday,protesting against the merger of Andhra Bank in Union Bank. Addressing the gathering, Left parties leaders T Arun, Prakash, N Rama Rao and others said the Union government was showing step-motherly attitude towards Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, the Union government merged State Bank of Hyderabad in State Bank of India and now Andhra Bank was merged in Union Bank. The bank was having 96 years of history, as it was setup in 1923.

They demanded that the Union government merge Union Bank in Andhra Bank. Andhra Pradesh people have attachment with the nearly century- old Andhra Bank and asked the Union government not to hurt the sentiments of the people.
