Chittoor: Lesson on total prohibition to be included in textbooks

Chittoor: The state government is planning to introduce the subject `Total prohibition' as one of the lessons in Government textbooks as a lesson. The students should first know the evils of consuming alcohol or wine and they would convey the same message to their elders, states Dy. Chief Minister and Excise Minister K Narayanaswamy.

Addressing ameeting at Zilla Parishad Meeting Hall on Wednesday, he reiterated that there was no question of going back in the promise of implementing total prohibition in the state as Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is keen to enforce total probation in a phased manner.

Initially, steps were taken up to wind up the belt shops. The Excise department has taken up the sale of wine for time being. With regard to education system in the state, he said that Government has committed for providing infrastructural facilities in the schools, he said.

He appealed the teachers to strive hardfor achieving first place for Chittoor district in education front particularly in Tenth Class results. Education Minister Suresh explained the government's aim to improve standards in education.

MLC Y Srinivasa Reddy condemned the government's policy to hand-over mid-day meal scheme to private agencies.
