Tirupati: Expressing their solidarity to the agitating farmers of Amaravati for the last 200 days demanding the continuation of state capital there itself, leaders of TDP and CPI have observed protest fast on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, CPI district secretary Ramanaidu has flayed the decision of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to shift capital though he supported it while in opposition.

He demanded lifting of all cases filed against the Amaravati farmers as part of their protests. The state capital issue belongs to entire state and not confined to the people of Amaravati only. If government fails to revert its decision of shifting the capital, state-wide agitations will be launched, he warned.

TDP district general secretary G Narasimha Yadav has said that entire state wants to have the state capital at Amaravati only. The decision to develop three capitals is against the public interest, he said. CPI leaders, Janardhan, Penchalaiah, Murali, TDP leaders BL Sanjay, Ramana and others participated.

In a separate protest, former Tirupati MLA M Sugunamma has described Amaravati as people's capital and said that the farmers of 29 villages who contributed more than 30,000 acres for the capital city were protesting for the past 200 days. The Telugu people across the globe wants Amaravati to become universal city, she said. Party leaders Pushpavathi, Santhamma and others also took part.
