Ongole: The government led by the YSR Congress Party is showing discrimination towards Dalits, opined the Telugu Desam, Congress parties and Dalit organisations like DHPS and MSPS.

They demanded the government to announce an ex-gratia of Rs One crore on par with the victims of Visakhapatnam and Rs 20 lakh to the injured persons.

TDP district president Damacharla Janardhana Rao offered deep condolences to the bereaved family members of Machavaram electrocution accident and blamed the government for allowing the tractor to ply with 22 workers without maintaining any social distance and not maintaining the electricity poles.

He said the ministers increased the ex-gratia from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh after facing protests.

He alleged that the government was showing discrimination on the Dalits as it provided Rs 1 crore to the kin of victims at Visakhapatnam but only Rs 10 lakh to the dalits in the Machavaram.

He also demanded the government to provide 20 lakh to the injured persons due to the electric shock and land for agriculture to all victims.

Prakasam DCC president Eda Sudhakar Reddy alleged that the negligence of the electricity department was the reason for mishap and death of 10 people.

Apart from Rs 1 crore ex-gratia, he demanded probe into the incident by an expert committee and make arrangements for the livelihood of the injured.
