Midhani unit work to be taken up in Nellore soon: Minister Rajnath Singh

Nellore: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that the proposed Midhani unit in Nellore district will be taken up soon.

Rajya Sabha member Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy raised a question on the issue and the Union Minister, in reply, said in the house that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up a joint venture with NALCO on aluminium alloys for producing high-end value products.

Midhani is expected to produce 60,000 tonnes per annum providing job opportunities directly for 400 people and indirectly to 1,500 people, the minister said. The unit will be completed in five years after getting all clearances.

Further, responding to another query on toxicity of LED bulbs, Union Power Minister RK Singh said that production of the LED equipment has been monitored carefully keeping in view of reports on adverse impact on the retina during evening and night time.

He said, now, BIS standards are mandatory for LED manufacturers in the country under IS 16101 (Part 1). They have to follow guidelines of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, he informed
