Migrant labourers from Bengaluru flood to Chittoor district

Tirupati: Chittoor district officials are facing a new problem as hundreds of migrant labourers from Karnataka on their way to home towns are flooded at district borders. All the way they were coming by walk from Bengaluru towards Chittoor district border via Kolar district for the last few days. Though they had registered for Sramik trains, they did not receive any communication from officialsfor their transportation. Hence, they have started by walk to reach their home states.

For the last three days many migrant workers relating to Odisha, MP and other north Indian states reached to Nagali check-post at the border of Kolar and Chittoor districts. The district officials stopped them and convinced them to stay till the vehicles are arranged for their transportation.

Officials have arranged food and shelter temporarily at nearest places on Bengaluru-Chittoor highway. In most of the cases, migrant labourers are not accepting the proposal of officials to wait for Shramik trains or RTC buses. Odisha workers were going by walk towards Chennai-Kalakata National highway to reach their destination via Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

Recently District Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta found some Odisha migrant labourers near Chandragiri when they were going towards Nellore to reach their native places. Collector instructed Chandragiri tahsildar to shift them to relief camps.

And also, officials found some Madya Pradesh labourers near Punganur on highway while they were going by walk. They were shifted to relief camp on the outskirts of Punganur.
