Visakhapatnam: Tourism Minister M Srinivasa Rao has appealed to Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, Visakhapatnam to resume the Visakhapatnam-Araku train services.

In a letter written to the DRM, the Minister said there used to be Visakha-Kirandul express, Visakha-Kirandul passenger and Visakha-Araku special trains along the route which helped a lot in transportation of tribals and meeting their daily needs.

However, the Minister mentioned that in view of the Covid-induced lockdown, the three train services were suspended, depriving the tribals of the transportation facility and access to essential commodities, farm needs and medical emergencies.

Similarly, Srinivasa Rao said, the tourism sector also lost sizeable economic activity because of the stoppage of these trains. Since the lockdown has been relaxed by the Central government and some of the trains resumed services, the Minister requested the DRM resume the train services in the route so as to benefit the tribal community.
