Ministers call for skill development in sports at Srikakulam

Srikakulam: Sports and games competitions are symbol of unity between different States and regions, said Ministers D Krishna Das and M Srinivas.

The Ministers were inaugurating the South Zone inter- university women kho-kho championship competitions at Dr BR Ambedkar University campus at Etcherla in the district on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Ministers explained that sports and games would contribute to unity among people and between the States and regions. They suggested that the youth participate in these competitions to prove their fitness and also to keep in sound mind.

They State government decided to pay Rs 5 lakh for gold medal winners at national-level championships, Rs 3 lakh for bronze medal winners, they said. The youth in Srikakulam district has high skills and they can complete at national-level sports competitions.

The youth required encouragement, he said and appealed to the officials, teachers and parents of the youth to encourage them Players from 57 universities from Andhra Pradesh Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala are participating in the kho- kho competition.
