MLA Abbayya launches Sankranti fete in Denduluru

Denduluru: A group of foreign youth of Indian origin enjoyed Sankranti festivities organised as part of 'Now India' programme at Kovvali village on Tuesday. They showed keen interest in watching cultural aspects linked to Sankranti festival such as cockfights, Haridasu, Gangireddu and others. A large number of people were present at the Bhogi bonfire in the village.

MLA K Abbayya Chowdary welcomed the group of 40 youth to witness the Sankranti celebrations. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA expressed happiness that the Indian origin youth showing keen interest in rich culture of India is a thing of joy for people here. The youngsters were curious to know significance of Gobbemmalu, Dhanyarasulu and bullock carts.

The youth have been on a state tour since January 10. So far, they visited Guntur, Krishna and West Godavari district. They would also visit East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts before winding up the tour on January 19. Youth from USA, UK, South Africa, Fiji, Singapore, Sri Lanka and other countries were present.
