Anantapur: Cleanliness Drive was launched in Vidhyuthnagar in the city by Collector Gandham Chandrudu as part of 'Mana Anantha-Sundara Anantha' programme devised by Collector who is also the Special Officer of Anantapuram Municipal Corporation, here on Saturday. MLA Anantha Venkatarama Reddy also participated.

The District Collector along with Joint Collector Dilly Rao and MLA Venkatarama Reddy participated in cleanliness drive by cleaning the area and collecting garbage from the streets. All the officials also participated in cleaning the streets.

Chandrudu spoke of a beautification and cleanliness movement involving all people's representatives, college and high school students and NGO volunteers. The programme was already launched on January 26 and will continue till March 25.

During the campaign, entire city will be cleaned, public places white washed and painted with pictures and art work reflecting the unique culture of Rayalaseema with paintings of historical forts of the bygone Krishnadevaraya era. The city will turn into a colourful and picturesque one. During the month long special drive Rs.59 crores works are being executed involving laying of new roads and improving the existing ones, tree plantation and improving sanitation etc. Today's cleanliness drive has been undertaken simultaneously in 21 locations in the city.
