Anantapur: Minister for BC Welfare M Sankara Narayana expressed his displeasure at the failure of officials to timely release water from HNSS to reservoirs and village tanks. Water from HNSS was expected to village tanks in the district by October, but water has not yet been reached to the tanks.

Addressing a review meeting with irrigation officials chaired by District Collector S Sathyanarayana here on Saturday, Narayanna asked the officials to divert 300 cusecs of water from KC Canal in Kurnool within a week for supply to village tanks in his constituency. Every branch canal should be allotted 100 cusecs of water but so far not even 20 cusecs have been supplied, he said.

Dharmavaram MLA Kethireddy regretted that not even one cusec of water was supplied to Dharmavaram. He demanded 150 cusecs of water to Dharmavaram segment. Madakasira MLA Tippe Swamy too demanded 100 cusecs for his constituency while Kadiri MLA Sidda Reddy demanded that 1,500 cusecs of water be brought to the district and supplied to all reservoirs and tanks.

In reply, Collector Sathyanarayana stated that an action plan will be formulated and see that water is supplied to all branch canals and tanks. HNSS Chief Engineer Narayana Swamy promised to bring an additional 300 cusecs along with the usual supply of 660 cusecs to the district.
