MLCs flay govts decision over English medium
Vijayawada: MLC V Balasubramanyam strongly demanded the government to withdraw the proposal of introducing English medium from Class I to VIII from the academic 2020-21.
Addressing the media at a programme organised at MBVK Bhavan here on Friday, Balasubramanyam said that if the medium of instruction is English, in the days to come Urdu, Tamil, Kannada, Oriya including Telugu will be abolished.
He further said that about 27 lakh students have to study in English medium forcefully. He said that there is a shortage of Telugu medium textbooks and English textbooks will not be available in the days to come, he added.
MLC K S Laxman Rao said that this kind of teaching practice was not there in any country across world. He said that when the intercultural committee formed by the government says continue medium of instruction in mother tongue, the government was taking one sided decision against the committee.
He said that after the primary school education was complete, in a proper scientific way English medium can be introduced. He said when there were Navodaya institutions why was the government trying to introduce English medium all of a sudden.
He further said they would protest against the government till it withdraws the decision of introducing English medium from Class I, said the MLC. MLC Srinivas Reddy and others also spoke on the occasion.
