MP Margani Bharat Ram urges Centre to construct flyovers on highway

Rajamahendravaram: MP Margani Bharat Ram has expressed his concern over the increasing accidents on the 32 km length of national highway between Rajanagaram and Vemagiri, falls under Rajamahendravaram Parliamentary constituency.

The MP submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari stating that as many as 18 black spots were identified basing on the accidents occurred between 2013 and 2017 by the police department between Rajanagaram and Jonnada centre on the national highway and underlined the need of flyovers to avoid accidents and to ease traffic movement.

Speaking to 'The Hans India' here on Wednesday, the MP said flyovers should come up at Diwanchervu, Lalachervu, Morampudi, Vemagiri and Jonnada centres as the police department also suggested the junctions.

The Union Ministry of Transport and National Highways sanctioned the flyovers and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) paid Rs 100 crore towards land acquisition and invited tenders but in vain. Meanwhile, the Union minister laid foundation stone to the flyovers at Akiveedu last year, he added.

Between 2013 and 2019, the total accidents took place are 573, including fatal 187, non-fatal 272. The number of deaths was 156 and injured 644. He also underlined the need to develop junctions, along with providing signal lights etc.

The Union Minister responded positively and assured to initiate steps relating to completion of flyovers on the national highway, he averred. The urban superintendent of police also suggested for the construction of flyovers immediately.
