Mystery shrouds girl's death at hostel in Veldurthi

Kurnool: An intermediate girl pursuing education at Bala Yogi SC Gurukula College in Veldurthi was found dead in suspicious circumstances on the hostel staircase on Saturday late night. The deceased has been identified as N Pushpalatha,16, a resident of Durgapeta village in Bethamcherla mandal. The deceased was a first-year intermediate science student.

The hostel inmates found Pushpalatha lying on the floor in an unconscious state and immediately informed the college warden, who immediately rushed her to Kurnool government general hospital. But the doctors at the hospital stated that she was brought dead.

District Collector G Veera Pandiyan on learning about the incident rushed to Veldurthy hospital on Sunday and enquired about the incident. He spoke with the students and the warden of the hostel. Later, the collector accompanied by Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Fakkeerappa Kaginelli visited Kurnool government general hospital and consoled the deceased family members. He also spoke with the forensic doctors who conducted the autopsy. According to forensic medicine associate professor Dr Rajasekhar, no external injuries were found on body. He further stated that body was handed over to the deceased parents Ananda Rao and Hymavathi.

The collector said that stringent action would be initiated on those responsible for the incident. A magisterial enquiry has been constituted with Kurnool Revenue Division Officer (RDO) Venkateshulu and Atmakur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Y Sruthi to probe the issue. The collector also directed the Gurukula college district coordinator Sri Devi and college principal Suneetha to submit report to him at the earliest.
