National Lok Adalat :Compensation of 1.75 cr given to kin of road accident victims
Kurnool: In a first of its kind, Mega Lok Adalat has awarded Rs 1.75 crores of compensation to the victims of the road accident. The petitioner claimed a compensation of Rs 5 crores from Shriram General Insurance Company Ltd, going by the age and annual income of the deceased person.
This was the highest amount awarded in Kurnool Lok Adalat so far, said Nageswar Reddy, the petitioner's lawyer.C Purnavathi, mother of the road accident victim, who filed the case, said on Saturday that both her son and daughter-in-law died leaving a grandson who had been denied of parental affection and care. The victim belongs to Telugupeta of Sirivella village in Kurnool district.
On 27 March 2015 C Sudhakar and his wife Harika were returning from Chennai to Kadapa by a car. At about 1 am on 28th March, 2015 they had reached Isukapalli Cross Road in between Rajampeta and Kadapa.
At the time, a lorry coming from the opposite direction at a high speed hit the car. In the accident, both son and his wife and along with inmates in the car received head injuries while C Sudhakar died on the spot. My daughter in law Harika also died on the same day in the hospital while undergoing treatment, C Purnavathi said.
She claimed that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving of the driver of the lorry. Therefore, the owner and the insurance company were jointly liable to pay compensation to the petitioners.
