Navy personnel boost health walk in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Over 2,000 naval personnel and their families participated in a 'health walk' to commence 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' celebrations at Eastern Naval Command (ENC) on Saturday. Flag Officer Command-in-Chief, ENC Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain flagged off the walk that began at INS Circar and covered a distance of 6-km at the Dolphin hill road.
A series of events are lined up for the next two weeks as the Indian Navy is preparing to mark the 20th anniversary of the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'. Wreath laying ceremony at 'Victory at Sea' War Memorial, Josh Runs, Cyclethon, Band performance at prominent public places, Coastal Security Awareness campaigns along with interactive programmes with fishing community and visits to ships, submarines and Air Stations by School Children with the theme "Know Your Armed Forces."
Debate, painting, poetry recitation competitions are also planned for students in naval schools as part of the celebrations. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26 by the nation to honour the brave hearts who laid down their lives during the 'Operation Vijay.' This year marks the 20th anniversary of victory in 'Operation Vijay', popularly known as the 'Kargil War.'
