Need to set up waste-to-energy plants stressed:T Chatterjee

Guntur: State-level Expert Committee for Protection Environment Chairperson T Chatterjee on Tuesday said there was a need to set up waste-to-energy plants. He visited waste-to-energy plant which is under construction in Guntur city. The GMC in association with Jindal is constructing the plant.

Speaking on this occasion, he said that dumping of garbage at dumping yards is causing environment problems. He further said that waste-to-energy plants are useful to protect environment and urged the GMC to bring waste to energy plant under construction into functioning.

GMC Commissioner Challa Anuradha said the GMC entered MoU with the Jindal Company to construct the waste-to-energy plant. This plant requires 1200 tonnes of garbage per day which the GMC will get from Vijayawada, Guntur Municipal Corporations and some municipalities in Guntur district. So far 90% of the work has been completed.

Environment Chief Engineer Ramchand, Joint Chief Engineer Environment Bhaskara Rao, Environment Engineer Ramesh were among those participated.
