Nellore: 2 burglars held, booty worth Rs 37 lakh recovered

Nellore: Two property offenders were held by the Kavali Police on Monday night and recovered property worth Rs 37 lakh that include cash, gold, and motorbikes from them.

The accused were identified as Nellore Shafi and Sk Ghouse Basha from Chinna Harijanawada area of North Mopuru village in Allur mandal.

Addressing the media at Umesh Chandra conference hall in the city, SP Bhaskar Bhushan said that the duo were involved in many property offences since 2018 and have not been held by any police station till now.

"The two accused are childhood friends in the village and were involved in housebreaking offences in the district for easy money. On Nov 23, the two accused entered a house in Yenugulabaavi village in Bitragunta mandal and stole property worth Rs 66,000. Local people observed them while leaving the house and tried to obstruct them, but Shafi left his motorcycle there and escaped from the place along with Ghouse on another bike,' said the SP.

P Kondaiah of the village lodged a complaint with the Bitragunta police who registered a case with Cr No 241/ 20 under sections 454, 380 IPC and started investigation. SI S Suman tracked the details of the accused on the basis of the motorbike which was left in the village at the time of theft.

The police came to know that the motorbike was registered from Nellore city in the name of Ashok. Kavali rural Circle Inspector P Akkeswar Rao along with the SI Suman took the two accused into custody after thorough investigation and the duo confessed that they had committed 28 offences in 10 mandals in the district, the SP said.

These cases were registered against them in Kavali rural Police Station, Kavali Town Police Station, Bitragunta, Kondapuram, Allur, Kovur, Kodavalur, Buchireddypalem, Dagadarthi and Vidvaluru stations limits. Police recovered 616 grams of gold worth Rs 30.80 lakh and cash of Rs 5.36 lakh from the accused.

The police are yet to recover 508 grams of gold worth Rs 25.40 lakh from the accused. Even though the two accused had been involved in housebreaking offences since 2018 and they were not arrested in any case, said SP. Kavali DSP D Prasad and others were present.
