Nellore: The impact of Koyambedu Market in Chennai city started in Sullurpet municipality where the officials started barricading declaring containment zones. Commissioner Narendra declared on Monday that COVID-19 cases were reported in the town from Vanamthopu, Gandlaveedhi, Sai Nagar, and Jhansi Nagar and they were maintaining containment procedures in those areas as per the established procedures for preventing further spread in the town.

He suggested to people to contact local secretaries of Grama/Ward Sachivalayam for any support. Officials sprayed disinfectants in Sai Nagar and Vanamthopu on Monday. The State government has to officially announce the number of cases reported in the town.

In fact, Sullurpet is 80 km away from Chennai and the traders from the constituency visit the Koyambedu market for vegetables, flowers, pulses, and other essentials. The administration delayed responding to the situation as soon as COVID cases surfaced at the Chennai market 10 days ago and now, the traders and regular visitors are being screened for the virus.
