Nellore: Somireddy lambasts police for harassing TDP cadre
Nellore: TDP politburo member and former Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy alleged that there have been frequent instances of harassment by the police personnel on the party workers in the district and recently a person committed suicide unable to bear the torture of police personnel in Dagadarthi Mandal.
Interacting with media at NTR Bhavan in the city on Wednesday, Somireddy said Dagadarthi SI harassed one G Karthik and beaten him up in the police station without any reason.
He said Karthik has also tried to file a petition in the High Court on the harassment by the police and finally took an extreme step of committing suicide. The victim had lost his livelihood as his hotel was removed after the YSR Congress government came to power, he stated.
"Not only in Dagadarthi, there are also similar instances of police harassment on TDP cadre in Podalakuru and Muthukur," said Somireddy. Police have been trying to open a rowdysheet against one who contested as an independent candidate in Sarvepalli constituency and they have also attacked him on the polling day itself, he added.
He also questioned the police who gave them powers to harass innocent people and added the TDP would fight for protecting the rights of leaders and activists.
Somireddy said it was not possible for Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to eliminate poverty even though he implements Navaratnalu or Dasarathnalu. He pointed out the State government has to get feedback through the intelligence wing about the situation at ground level for taking appropriate measures to control attacks on innocent people.
