Nellore: State braces for cyclone
Nellore: A low-pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea on Wednesday morning and is likely to concentrate into a depression over central parts of the south bay on May 15, according to the Met Department. Further, the system intensifies into a cyclonic storm over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by May 16 evening and is very likely to move northwestwards initially till May 17 and then re-curve north-northeastwards.
Under its influence, adverse weather is likely over the south and the central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Andaman Sea from Friday onwards. IMD also mentioned that the conditions will become favorable for advancement of southwest monsoon over South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and the Nicobar Islands around May 16.
Squally winds, speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph, are likely to prevail over the south and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on May 15; 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph over the same region on May 16. Wind speed is likely to increase further becoming gale winds speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph over southwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal from the evening of May 16.
Squally winds are likely to prevail over the Andaman Sea on May 15 and 16. Met department warned that sea condition will be rough to very rough and fishermen are advised not to venture into the South and Central Bay from May 15.
