Nellore: Sullurpet turns Coronavirus hotspot

Nellore: The district officials are on tenterhooks due to increasing Covid-19 cases in Sullurpet area. Medical and health teams conducted tests on traders and others having links with Koyambedu market in Chennai and 9 positive cases reported from Sullurpet area.

Further, 15 people were tested positive on Tuesday when officials conducted tests using Truenat kits, but the SVIMS officials have to confirm it. District collector M V Seshagiri Babu and SP Bhaskar Bhushan rushed to the town on Tuesday for monitoring the situation.

Officials have already identified containment zones in the town at Sai Nagar, Vanamthopu, and Jhansi Nagar areas restricting the movement of the people. Now, all shops in the town have been asked to close till the civic officials give permission.

Nine persons from a single family were tested positive which created panic among the local population. They are all vegetable traders, who frequent the Koyambedu market for purchases.

Locals say there were only very few people were visiting Koyambedu for trading and recently more than 25 people started the vegetable business freshly which worsened the situation.
