Nellore: Youth extorts industrialist for money, held

Nellore, Feb 28: Dargamitta Police held an IIT graduate on Friday for extorting an industrialist for money threatening him to abduct and kill his daughter. The accused has been identified as Yellamraju Sai Nikhil Varma, 27, from Lingasamudram village of Sydapuram mandal.

According to Nellore city DSP J Srinivasulu Reddy, Y Sai Nikhil Varma is an intelligent student who got seat in Navodaya school. He completed his Engineering in Mining at IIT-Dhanbad during 2010-15. Nikhil knew the family details of the local industrialist well and had collected details about him from various sources.

Nikhi diverted the case in many angles using to make phone calls to the industrialist from unknown persons for money. He had stolen three mobile phones from an autodriver and other persons to make calls to the industrialist.

He used to throw them at various places for diverting attention of the investigation teams,' said the City DSP.

Finally, Investigation team found the suspecting details on the CCTV cameras based on the mobile signals. 'One day the industrialist received a call from the accused where the team of Investigators immediately rushed to the spot. The call was from the Nellore Railway station and the mobile phone was of a passenger who wascready to board a train. When the Police contacted the passenger he replied that one person had used his phone. Police asked him to identify the passenger showing an image captured from the CCTV footage. The passenger confirmed the person who used his mobile phone,' said the DSP. Further, the police arrested the accused in the city on Friday. Dargamitta Police received a complaint on the extortion of money from an industrialist and registered a case with Cr.No.25/2020 u/s 387, 506 last month. Dargamitta Circle Inspector G Nageswaramma, Task Force CI , CCS Circle Inspectors Rama Rao, P Akkeswar Rao have nvestigated the case.
