Nine coolies electrocuted to death in Prakasam

Ongole: The farm labor who spent the day in work smiling and joking, met an ill fate in the return to home, in Prakasam district on Thursday evening. The tractor carrying the workers hit an electric pole and the vehicle is electrocuted to kill nine people on the spot while two severely injured people are shifted to RIMS Ongole for treatment. The minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, Janasena president Pawan Kalyan offered condolences to the family while the state government announced an exgratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.

The farmworkers are natives of Machavaram in Naguluppalapadu mandal and they went to work in a chilli farm at Raparla but owned by the farmer of Machavaram. The owner arranged the tractor for the to and fro transport and shifting of the picked-up chilli to the home. On Thursday evening, the tractor was loaded with the chilli bags and 22 coolies, all are residents of Machavaram and set journey to home. The driver lost control when they are just about to enter the village and hit a cement electricity pole beside the road.

The pole was broken and the live power cable hit the tractor and the truck behind hit to electrocute all people in them. Nine people, Pika Koteswaramma aged 50 years, Nukathoti Lakshamma aged 65 Yrs, Kakumanu Ramadhevi aged 55yrs, Kakumanu Kumari aged 45yrs, Kakumanu Ramasri aged 40 Yrs, Golla Ravi Sankar aged 20yrs, Kakumanu Siva aged 17 yrs, Kakumanu Mounika aged 18 yrs, Kakumanu Amulya aged 18yrs died on the incident spot while severely injured Nalluri Chenchaiah and Kakumanu Bhagyavathi are shifted to RIMS Ongole for treatment.

The Ongole DSP KVVNV Prasad, joint collector J Venkata Murali, Ongole rural CI P Subbarao, and other officials reached to spot and are conducting the inquiry. The minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy offered deep condolences to the family on behalf of the state government and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased farmworkers.
